SMEV Proposes a Compromise Solution to the FAME Subsidy Payments Issue

The SMEV today indicated reaching a possible breakthrough on the vexatious issue of subsidy payments that created a crisis in the EV industry and a log jam with the MHI.  SMEV said that post numerous discussions with EV manufacturers, and those who are impacted by MHI’s decisions since the last 18 months, an unusual, but obvious, possibility for a logical solution has emerged and the OEMs have come around to accepting it as the best under the circumstances. SMEV Ropes in Sanjay Kaul to Lead Advocacy for the Sector: Suspends Present Constitution Temporarily

The SMEV has today indicated that it will go into voluntary hibernation to coincide with the appointment of Shri Sanjay Kaul as Chief Evangelist. Mr Kaul has been a prominent civil society and consumer activist and is well known for his role in federating civil society groups in the capital. Mr Kaul has interests in the EV sector and believes strongly in the growth potential and importance of this sunrise industry for the nation. SMEV Petitions NGT: Slashing E2W Subsidy has Disrupted India’s Transition to Clean Fuel

The registered association representing Indian manufacturers of electric  vehicles  SMEV (Society  of  Manufacturers of Electric Vehicles) has today petitioned the National Green Tribunal (NGT) expressing concerns that MHI’s latest decision to cut-down FAME 2 subsides is likely to disrupt India’s growth in the EV sector and consequently have a detrimental impact on the environmental and health indices of the country. The SMEV via this letter has requested for NGT’s support to a Green Tax on fuel-based two-wheelers so as to incentivize the adoption of green vehicles and contribute to the national objective of environmental preservation and pollution reduction.
