Building on the recent launch of its Vallam plant, the Gangaikondan facility marks the next step in this progression bringing state-of-the-art automation and smart manufacturing to the table, while laying the groundwork for the company’s planned vertical integration across cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing. This is the company’s newest manufacturing facility in Tamil Nadu and represents a significant step in Vikram Solar’s expansion journey, reinforcing its commitment to strengthening India’s domestic solar manufacturing capabilities.
Spread across 6 lakh sq. ft., the newly built greenfield module manufacturing facility is expected to generate employment for more than 1,500 skilled professionals. The investment supports regional industrial development while expanding India’s clean energy manufacturing base. It is a highly automated plant built to the latest standards in module manufacturing. As a next-generation smart factory, the plant combines advanced automation with digital manufacturing technologies to improve efficiency, quality, and reliability.
From real-time production tracking to automated quality checks at every stage, the facility is built to minimise manual intervention and maximise precision, helping ensure that each module performs reliably for decades. Key capabilities include real-time monitoring of the entire production process, complete traceability of every module manufactured, automated inspection systems that catch defects with greater accuracy, and automated handling at critical stages. The plant also uses smart systems to automatically grade, sort, and package modules based on their performance, ensuring customers receive consistently high-quality products.
The first products manufactured at the plant are Vikram Solar’s Hypersol N-Type TOPCon G12R modules. They deliver 615-640 Wp of rated power with module efficiencies of up to 23.69%.
The Gangaikondan plant is a cornerstone of Vikram Solar’s long-term vision to build a fully integrated solar manufacturing ecosystem in India. Over the coming years, the campus will progressively house module, cell, wafer, and ingot manufacturing, bringing the entire solar value chain under one roof. This integrated model will strengthen supply chain resilience, enhance quality control across every stage of production, reduce logistics and ancillary costs, and increase domestic value addition. As part of this roadmap, Vikram Solar plans to establish 9 GW of solar cell manufacturing capacity by FY27, expand it by another 3 GW by FY28, and add 12 GW of wafer and ingot manufacturing capacity by FY29-30, reinforcing its commitment to building a globally competitive, self-reliant solar manufacturing ecosystem.
