We don’t just build systems, we build long-term energy partnership – Dipankar Pal, MD, Roofsol Energy Pvt. Ltd.
Q. Roofsol Energy has grown significantly since its inception in 2016. Can you walk us through the key milestones in your journey so far?
Absolutely. Roofsol Energy began its journey in 2016, and since then, we have consistently evolved from a regional rooftop integrator to a pan-India EPC powerhouse. Key milestones include crossing 300+ completed projects, expanding into Group Captive and OPEX models, commissioning one of the largest rooftop solar plants (26 MWp at Sportking, Bathinda). Most recently, securing ₹210 Cr in funding from Aseem Infra for 92.66 MWp development marks a pivotal phase in our growth story.
Q. What do you believe has been the most defining moment for Roofsol Energy in becoming a top EPC player in India?
There are many such moments, but what comes to my mind is the commissioning of the 26 MWp single-location rooftop solar project at Sportking Limited was a turning point. It demonstrated our capability to execute complex, large-scale projects with precision. It positioned us not just as an EPC contractor, but as a trusted infrastructure partner for large industries. That recognition, coupled with our continued top-3 ranking by Bridge to India for three years in a row, has been defining.
Q. What sets Roofsol Energy apart from other solar EPC companies, particularly in the commercial and industrial segment?
Three things: Engineering Depth, Client-Centricity, and Speed with Scale. We bring a deep understanding of industrial client needs, be it load profiling, custom design, or financial modelling. Our ability to offer both CAPEX and OPEX models, paired with high-quality execution, sets us apart.
We don’t just build systems; we build long-term partnerships with measurable energy and financial returns. We have a strong design and engineering team which provides strong foundation for long term reliability of our projects.
Q. With over 300 projects and presence across India how do you manage project quality and consistency across such a wide footprint?
Standardization is key. We have developed robust internal SOPs and rely on centralized engineering, while maintaining regional execution agility. Our in-house PMC (Project Management & Commissioning) teams work in sync with local partners under close supervision. Quality audits, real time monitoring tools, and a strong post-sales service infrastructure ensure consistency regardless of geography.
Q. Roofsol Energy has consistently ranked among the top 5 rooftop solar EPC providers in India. What do you think contributes to this consistency in performance?
It’s a mix of clarity in vision, deep-rooted execution capabilities, and a culture of accountability. We take ownership – from design to commissioning and beyond. Our rankings aren’t a result of volume alone, but the quality of relationships we build with our clients and partners. We have also stayed ahead by being financially prudent and technologically adaptive.
Q. With a vision of executing 500 MWp of EPC projects worldwide by 2025, how close are you to achieving this, and what strategies are being employed to meet this target?
We are well on track and optimistic about reaching the 500 MWp milestone by Q4 2025. Key drivers include our expanding portfolio of industrial and Group Captive projects, with a strong project pipeline and enhanced project financing capability – highlighted by our recent funding round. Strategic partnerships and a technology-led execution model are further accelerating our momentum.
Q. What key trends are you seeing in the Indian rooftop solar EPC market, especially for C&I clients?
I am seeing a rapid shift from CAPEX to OPEX/RESCO models, especially in the MSME and mid-tier industrial sectors. Hybrid systems, energy storage, and performance-linked service contracts are gaining traction. Additionally, clients are more informed and now expect digitally monitored, high ROI systems with minimal downtime.
Q. What role do you see for policy and regulatory frameworks in accelerating solar adoption, especially for industrial and commercial consumers?
Policy stability is crucial. Net metering clarity, faster DISCOM approvals, and streamlined open access norms can significantly reduce friction. We also believe that state-level subsidy alignment, green financing support will further accelerate adoption. Policies that reward energy efficiency and carbon reduction directly can unlock faster adoption across the C&I sector.
Q. Looking ahead, what does the future hold for Roofsol Energy in terms of innovation, expansion, and industry leadership?
The future is exciting. We are actively investing in AI-driven energy management, storage-integrated systems. On the expansion front, we are doubling down on Group Captive assets, IPP platforms, and residential programmers.
As always, our goal is to not just grow, but lead with purpose, delivering clean energy where it matters most, with integrity, efficiency, and scale.
Q. How has the journey been so far on the retail side of the business with Roofsol Homes? Tell us more about it?
The journey with Roofsol Homes has been both energizing and insightful. As the residential solar market in India matures, we recognized early on the need for a focused, customer-first approach in the retail segment and that’s exactly what Roofsol Homes was built for.
We launched the brand with the vision of making solar easy, accessible, and financially attractive for homeowners. Since then, Roofsol Homes has grown rapidly and today stands as one of India’s most trusted residential solar platforms. Beyond individual homes, we have also extended our solutions to real estate developers, hospitals, office buildings, educational institutions, and other commercial establishments looking for decentralized clean energy. At present we are in eight states of India and have the target to have PAN India presence by end of the 2026.
The future is bright for Roofsol Homes. With government support under initiatives like PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, we are scaling up aggressively, expanding our channel partner network, and investing in tech platforms to deliver a delightful experience from survey to installation. The goal is simple, to make Rooftop Homes mainstream for every Indian.
